Law of associativity

Law of associativity

The law of associativity is a mathematical property that applies to two operations: addition and multiplication. This property indicates that, when there are three or more numbers in these operations, the result does not depend on the way the terms are grouped.

In other words, the order in which numbers are added or multiplied does not change the final result.

Here’s the mathematical expression for addition:

(a + b) + c = a + (b + c)

And for multiplication:

(a x b) x c = a x (b x c)

  • Addition: (2 + 3) + 4 = 2 + (3 + 4) = 9
