# Decimal system

**The decimal number system is a number system based on ten.** The decimal system is a way of counting and representing numbers using ten digits: **0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9.**

The number is expressed in base-10 where each value is denoted by 0 or first nine positive integers.

The decimal number system is **a positional notation system in which each digit in a number represents a power of 10**. **For example**, in the number **538** the first digit represents **5 hundreds** , the second digit represents **3 tens**, and the third digit represents **8 ones** .** 538=(5×100)+(3×10)+8**
