numbers which are used to determine the position of a point or a shape in a 2-dimensional plane.<\/p>\n<p>We define the position of a point on a 2D plane using two numbers, called the x-coordinate and the y-coordinate.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Coordinates<\/strong> are written as ordered pairs of numbersor using letters and numbers.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>first<\/strong> coordinate refers to the<strong> x- axes<\/strong> and the <strong>second<\/strong> coordinate refers to the <strong>y- axes<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p><strong> (x; y)<\/strong> or <strong>A (x; y)<\/strong><br \/><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Example:\u00a0 <span style=\"color: #000000;\">(-2, 3) or A(-2, 3)<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #99ccff; background-color: #333399;\"><strong>Coordinate plane<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<h5 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\">The coordinate plane is divided into <strong>four sections<\/strong>, called <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">quadrants.<\/span><\/span><\/h5>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Quadrants are named <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>I, II, III<\/strong> <\/span>and <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>IV<\/strong><\/span>, numbered in an <strong>anti-clockwise direction<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The<strong> x- axes is horizontal<\/strong> and the <strong>y- axes is vertical<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Quadrant I<\/strong> has positive x and y values<br \/><strong>Quadrant II<\/strong> has negative x and positive #ff0000;\"><strong>ordinate<\/strong><\/span>, is the vertical position according to the <strong>y-axes.<\/strong><br \/>The <strong>coordinates used<\/strong> on <strong>coordinate planes, grids or
