Coordinates<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

Coordinates<\/strong> <\/span>are\u00a0a pair of numbers which are used to determine the position of a point or a shape in a 2-dimensional plane.<\/p>\n

We define the position of a point on a 2D plane using two numbers, called the x-coordinate and the y-coordinate.<\/p>\n

Coordinates<\/strong> are written as ordered pairs of numbersor using letters and numbers.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The first<\/strong> coordinate refers to the x- axes<\/strong> and the second<\/strong> coordinate refers to the y- axes<\/strong>:<\/p>\n

(x; y)<\/strong> or A (x; y)<\/strong>
Example:\u00a0 (-2, 3) or A(-2, 3)<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Coordinate plane<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n
The coordinate plane is divided into four sections<\/strong>, called quadrants.<\/span><\/span><\/h5>\n

Quadrants are named I, II, III<\/strong> <\/span>and IV<\/strong><\/span>, numbered in an anti-clockwise direction<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The x- axes is horizontal<\/strong> and the y- axes is vertical<\/strong><\/p>\n

Quadrant I<\/strong> has positive x and y values
Quadrant II<\/strong> has negative x and positive y
Quadrant III<\/strong> has negative x and y
Quadrant IV<\/strong> has positive x and negative y<\/p>\n\n

Coordinate<\/span><\/strong><\/h4>\n

The first coordinate<\/strong>\u00a0 is called the abscissa<\/strong><\/span>, is the horizontal position according to the x-axes<\/strong>.
The second coordinate<\/strong> is called the ordinate<\/strong><\/span>, is the vertical position according to the y-axes.<\/strong>
The coordinates used<\/strong> on coordinate planes, grids or maps<\/strong><\/p>\n\n
