Units of area

Units of area

 The units of area could be small or large units depending on the object that we measure.

The common metric measurements for area are square centimeter, square meter and hectare (1 hectare =10,000 square meters).

  • Areas of glass panes are measured in square centimeters.
  • Building and floor areas are measured in square meters.
  • Farm land is expressed in hectares.

1 square metre, m2 = 10 000 square centimetres, cm2
1 hectare, ha = 10 000 square metres, m2
1 square kilometre, km2= 100 hectares, ha
1 are, a = 100 square metre, m2

1m²  –  1dm²  –  1cm²  –  1mm²
1m² = 100 dm²
1dm² = 100 cm²
1cm² = 100 mm²

1m² = 10 000 cm²
1ha = 10 000 m²
1km² = 100ha
1a = 100 m²

1km –  1hm – 1dam – 1m – 1dm – 1cm – 1mm

1 meter = 10 decimeter

1 m2= 10 × 10 = 100 dm2

1 meter = 100 centimeter

1 m2= 100 × 100 = 10000 cm2

1 meter = 1000 mm

1 m2= 1000 × 1000 =
=1000000 mm2

1 meter = 0.1 decameter

1 m2= 0.1 × 0.1 =
=0.01 da m2

1 meter = 0.01 hectameter

1 m2= 0.01 × 0.01 =
=0.0001 hm2

1 meter = 0.001 kilometer

1 m2= 0.001 × 0.001 =
=1 × 10 -6kilo m2

1 dm= 0.1 m

1 dm2= 0.1 × 0.1 =
=0.01 m2

1 cm= 0.01 m

1 cm2= 0.01 × 0.01 =
= 0.0001 m2

1 mm= 0.001 m

1 mm2= 0.001 × 0.001 =
= 1 × 10 -6m2

1 da m= 10 m

1 da m2= 10 × 10 = 100 m2

1 hm= 100 m

1 hm2= 100 × 100 = 10000 m2

1 km= 1000 m

1 km2= 1000 × 1000 =
=1000000 m2
